POSITION SUMMARY
The starter assists with directing the flow of traffic outside the clubhouse by directing players to the first tee at the appropriate times and having groups tee off at their specified tee time. The starter must be flexible in meeting the varying scheduling needs of the course and may be required to work additional hours than scheduled, if necessary. This position requires a highly self-motivated individual who can work with minimal supervision and interact with guests at a high-level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
It must be recognized that all specific duties cannot be listed and that responsibilities will change accordingly as the need arises.
- This position will acknowledge all guests they encounter in a warm, friendly, and professional manner.
- Check with the golf shop for any special instructions for the day.
- Make sure you have a working radio and tee sheets.
- Check the starter stand or first tee for all supplies for the day (scorecards, pencils, repair tools).
- Pick up any trash that you see laying around on the ground.
- Verify that all revenues have been properly recorded by inspecting receipts for all players before they go out onto the golf course.
- Assign carts and verify that each person has paid for riding. Record the cart number for each group. Keep the keys out of plain sight from guests so they can’t help themselves to them.
- Provide information regarding the course, pace of play and other golf-related issues to each group.
- Remind golfers about the use of ball mark repair tools, replacing divots, and bunkers being raked.
- Determine and track the pace of play for both 9 holes and 18 holes throughout the shift.
- Collect all keys from returning carts, verify the condition of the carts, and assist the cart attendant with removing trash from the carts.
- Always maintain a clean and orderly appearance of the starter area.
- Assist the golf shop by relaying any information regarding the course to the golfers.
- Assist outing personnel with the setup of golf carts and range operations when asked.
- Refer all major problems/complaints to a manager on duty.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Adhere to all Pleasant View Golf Course Policies and Procedures.
- Turn in the tee sheet (including cart number assignments) along with the radio to the golf shop at the end of the shift.
REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible availability including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to clearly communicate with co-workers and guests.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- A positive attitude while on the job is also essential.
- Customer service is a must.
- Background as a golfer is helpful.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
